About Velago

Built for the students
who need it most.

Velago is a product of the Mental Health Initiative for South Asians (MHISA) — designed in partnership with researchers, school social workers, and the communities most often left out of mental health care.

Mission

Cultural concordance, by design.

Most mental health platforms optimize for scale. Velago optimizes for fit. Underserved students — South Asian, Black, Latine, immigrant, low-income — encounter friction at every step: insurance, language, cultural understanding, trust. Velago's matching algorithm and clinical workflow start from the assumption that concordance is the intervention.

Pilot

Capital Preparatory Magnet School
Hartford, CT — Fall 2026.

Velago's first deployment is a 12-week agile sprint co-designed with the school's counseling team. Each two-week sprint ships a new module of the platform, with on-the-ground feedback shaping the next.

Research

Grounded in validated instruments.

UConn IRB approved. PHQ-9 and GAD-7 instruments used per published clinical thresholds. Outcomes data is collected with explicit consent and informs both platform improvement and academic publication.
